It’s Warm Here (but not hot!)

We’re still in Colorado, enjoying both the weather and the scenery!  It’s a beautiful place and we love the RV park we are in Olathe.  It has been warm – in the mid-90s.  The folks who live around here are complaining about how hot it is, but we keep telling them it isn’t really hot…..not compared to home!

This has been an eventful week, but it looks like things are finally settling down.  When we last wrote on Wednesday, we had just put the new tires on the trailer and ordered parts for the brakes.  On Thursday, we finally left the RV and got out for a trike ride.  We headed south to Ouray where we had lunch, then we rode across the Million Dollar Highway to Silverton for ice cream (Dotty was in heaven when she saw they had huckleberry ice cream!) before turning around and returning back the way we came.  Here are a few pics from the ride…

Dotty got a couple of videos of the ride.  You can find them at the following links:

If you look closely, you will notice there are no guardrails and it’s a looong way down!

Friday was a golf day….we played at The Bridges Golf Club.  It was a pretty day and we had the course to ourselves.  It was a great day.

When we returned from golf, the package with the brake parts had arrived, so Bill got busy doing the brake repair.  All went smoothly (other than being warm) and Bill thinks we’ve done all that we can do to get us home.  We will still have to get the bodywork done when we get home, but everything else looks good to go.

Saturday was a day to enjoy the Olathe Harvest Festival.  We are staying in a small town that has a proud history in agriculture (kind of reminds us of someplace we used to live…only smaller).  They are the sweet corn capital of the west and they export sweet corn everywhere (we’ve seen it from Texas to Washington and many places in between).  It is also the home to Palisade Peaches – awesome fruit that is again found all over the west.  Anyway…..this was the first year that the local business community put on a day-long harvest festival.  It started with a free pancake breakfast at the local bank.  Then there was a parade!

They had street vendors and we went back at lunch for some great food-truck eats.  The day continued with a car show (the planned burnout contest was called off because they couldn’t get insurance for it) and ended with a street dance to cap off the day.  Big fun in a small town.  Probably something like Fallbrook was many years ago.

Today (Sunday) has been a great day.  We started out attending a local church, then lunch with some new RV friends, Bruce and Linda (aka “The Redhead and the Preacher” – check them out on Youtube!).  Now back at the RV having a restful afternoon.

Sammy is doing OK, but something has changed in the last few days.  He has become much more anxious when we leave him and has actually done some damage to the inside of the RV.  We don’t know what’s going on….he seems healthy and acts normal when we are with him.  Who knows?  He has been the perfect RV dog for 9 weeks but is now having a problem.  Maybe he’s ready to go home, too.  We got him a crate which is set up in the garage and that seems to be working in the short term.

We will be here in Colorado until Wednesday when we will make our final move to Williams, Arizona for our final stop before heading for home on Monday the 26th.  It’s been a great summer, but we are looking forward to home.

Thanks for following along……..
